Wiley Roots Announces Black (Cat) Friday Imperial Stout Release

GREELEY, CO – Wiley Roots Brewing Company is purring with excitement for the return of Midnight on the Run, the brewery’s famous Black (cat) Friday release. Chocolate Midnight on the Run, Cinnamon Midnight on the Run, Hazelnut Midnight on the Run, and Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Midnight on the Run will be available on-site and to-go on Friday, November 24, 2023 starting at 12pm.

Midnight on the Run is a rich dark chocolate Imperial Stout conditioned on Ghanaian cacao nibs and named after the brewery’s black cat, Midnight. In 2016, the brewery’s co-founders, Kyle and Miranda Carbaugh, adopted Midnight when the feral stray cat showed up at the Carbaugh’s family ranch east of Greeley. Over the years, Midnight has become a mascot for fans of the brewery, with the first batch of Midnight on the Run releasing to a line of fans in 2018. The cat-damonimum has since spread worldwide, from fans creating Midnight inspired artwork, to donating paintings to the brewery, to an international art display in Tokyo, with Midnight included in a feature of brewery cats around the world. 

This year, Wiley Roots announced the return of Midnight on the Run with four new flavors, including dark chocolate, dark chocolate and hazelnut, dark chocolate and cinnamon, and dark chocolate aged in a single Rye Whiskey barrel from Laws Whiskey House in Denver, Colorado. These dessert beers or “pastry stouts” are popular among fans because of their sweet dessert flavors like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and hazelnut.

“We want people to have a place to go on Black Friday to escape and have some fun. When we started doing this release in 2018, it was important to us that people felt like they were part of something special. To enjoy a great beer and slow down a bit. Now it’s an opportunity for us to connect with anyone that needs a break during the holidays.” said Kyle Carbaugh, Co-Founder and Head Brewer.

“Everyone loves this release for so many reasons, but Midnight is definitely the star. People drive from all over to visit the brewery for a chance to see her. That’s why we made some merchandise this year, so people can take her home with them, including pins, stickers, a new koozie, and beer glasses. She’s become such a star. I think she knows it too.” said Miranda Carbaugh, the Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer.

Midnight on the Run is available from the Wiley Roots taproom and in select retail stores in Colorado and Arizona. All four variants of the beer will be on-site and available to-go starting at 12pm on Black Friday.
